Saudi Arabia to unveil national media strategy soon, says minister
RIYADH — Minister of Media Salman Al-Dosari confirmed on Wednesday that Saudi Arabia has not yet launched its official media sector strategy, stating that the national media strategy remains under review and will be formally announced in due course. Speaking during the government press conference in Riyadh, Al-Dosari said the Saudi media landscape is evolving from merely relaying news to creating impact, emphasizing that the sector is moving "from medium to message." He also announced that the upcoming edition of the Saudi Media Forum will be held under the patronage of King Salman bin Abdulaziz, positioning it as a national platform aligned with global media momentum and future-focused tools. '2030 is no longer a date in the future, it symbolizes limitless ambition. In Saudi Arabia, dreams aren't told, they're built. Tomorrow doesn't wait; it's accomplished today,' Al-Dosari added. Highlighting the Kingdom's humanitarian role, the minister noted that Saudi Arabia is transforming its aid initiatives into a sustainable humanitarian system. Since its inception, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has delivered more than SR30 billion in aid to 108 countries through over 3,500 development and relief programs. Al-Dosari also revealed that around 230,000 surgeries have been performed under Saudi Arabia's overseas voluntary medical campaigns. Meanwhile, the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen has provided over SR4.27 billion in funding for more than 265 projects across key sectors including roads, water, health, and education. Turning to technology and innovation, Al-Dosari said Saudi Arabia sees sustainable development as a transnational responsibility. 'We are crafting the algorithms of the future, turning data into decisions and artificial intelligence into development,' he noted. Saudi Arabia's digital economy reached SR495 billion in 2024, accounting for 15% of GDP and growing at an annual rate of nearly 7%. The number of tech companies listed on the Saudi stock exchange has also surged to 23 in 2024, up from just two in 2020. 'Today, we don't just consume technology, we contribute to building it with a value-driven and human-centered vision,' Al-Dosari said. © Copyright 2022 The Saudi Gazette. All Rights Reserved. NBCUniversal considering to launch a sports cable network, WSJ reports
July 23 (Reuters) - Comcast's (CMCSA.O), opens new tab NBCUniversal is considering launching a sports cable network that would feature content also on its Peacock platform, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. The potential channel, which would be offered in specialized packages, could debut as early as the fall, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter. According to the report, the proposed channel would primarily feature sports that are also streamed on NBCUniversal's Peacock streaming platform. The network would be offered to cable and satellite providers as part of specialty channel packages, the report added. Talks remain at an early stage and a final decision regarding the launch of the network has not yet been made, WSJ said. NBCUniversal and its parent Comcast did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment. The news stands in stark contrast to the broader challenges of the industry, as traditional television continues to lose ground to the rise of on-demand content and the growing trend of cord-cutting. However, live sports remain a bright spot, thriving even as other segments struggle. Meanwhile, NBCU is moving forward with plans to spin off most of its cable networks into a new company, signaling a significant shift in its media strategy.

Omani media presents a distinguished image of country worldwide
Muscat: The Omani media continues to present a distinguished image of the Sultanate of Oman to the global audience, guided by a media strategy aligned with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. The Ministry of Information has implemented annual policies, methods, and programmes to strengthen Oman's international presence, including hosting international journalists, organising meetings with officials, producing documentaries, and enhancing cooperation with global media institutions. These efforts serve as a mirror reflecting Oman's potential, achievements, and modern advancements across political, economic, tourism, cultural, and developmental fields. To expand engagement with international media entities, Oman has become a recurring destination for dozens of journalists from different continents. Arriving with their questions and cameras, they departed with deeper impressions of a nation that combines political stability, cultural openness, and economic prosperity. Hosting programmes have resulted in the production of over 937 media materials between January 2024 and June 2025, including visual and written reports, analytical articles, short films, and interactive posts on social media and prestigious media platforms. Some international outlets have even published special editions highlighting Oman's economic growth, energy transition toward green hydrogen, sustainable environmental policies, and its balanced political stances. During the same period, more than 18 bilateral media memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were either signed or finalised for signing, reflecting an expansion of media partnerships with friendly nations and reinforcing frameworks for cooperation and media exchange. These efforts have also led to a 52% increase in media coverage by regional and international outlets in 2024 compared to 2023—an indicator of growing global interest in Oman due to its notable efforts and active role in promoting international peace and security, including its mediation in Iranian-American talks, as well as its dynamic economic, trade, and investment activities. To showcase Oman's civilisational role and ancient history, the Ministry of Information oversaw the production of the documentary series 'House of Wonders' in three languages, which premiered in the UK and will be screened in other countries. Additionally, a book documenting Oman's civilizational influence in Zanzibar and East Africa was launched. Collaboration with Russia's RT channel also resulted in the production of 'The Dagger', a film screened in the Russian Federation that highlights the cultural and historical dimensions of Oman's global presence. The film narrates the story of a historical dagger transferred from the National Museum of Oman to Russia's Hermitage Museum. The Ministry has broadened its international network, leveraging a database of over 500 regional and global media entities. It actively engages with them using advanced technological tools and has introduced digital publishing for foreign-targeted content, which has received widespread positive response. This is particularly evident in the growing global media interest in Oman's role in environmental and energy issues, especially green hydrogen, as seen during His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik's visit to the Netherlands and the launch of a strategic project—the largest of its kind—for exporting green hydrogen to Europe. Additionally, the Ministry is an active member of the European Broadcasting Union and is collaborating with the BBC on a project to correct AI-generated digital inputs about Oman, ensuring an accurate and updated representation of the Sultanate of Oman in the global information space. Sheikha Ahmed Al-Mahrouqi, Acting Director General of External Media at the Ministry of Information, stated that enhancing Oman's global image requires continuous, professional, and strategic engagement with international media. This approach serves as a long-term investment in the nation's reputation, reaffirming its noble stances and humanitarian message. Through this balanced approach, Omani media continues to fulfill its sincere and objective mission in serving the Sultanate of Oman's, drawing inspiration from national principles, future vision, and the firm belief in media's pivotal role in shaping Oman's international presence.
